Best Training Treats for Dog Training
The right training treat can make or break a session — too big and your dog's full after five reps, too crumbly and you're both covered in it.
What to look for
- Small, low-calorie treats (2–5 calories each) so frequent rewards don't add up during a session.
- Simple ingredient lists — no corn, wheat, or soy — tend to sit better with sensitive stomachs.
- A soft texture that's easy to break into smaller pieces for quick, rapid-fire rewards.
Price range: $5–$15 per bag
Best for frequent, low-calorie rewards indoors or on cool days. Soft treats can get a little gummy in a warm pocket on a summer hike — fine for a 20-minute training session, less fine for an all-day trip.
Treats count towards the daily total. Our free food calculator tells you how much food your dog needs, so the treats stay extras.
