Flying Transavia With Your Dog: Cabin, Hold, Fees and How to Book
Transavia is the cheapest way to fly with a dog from the Netherlands: a cabin spot starts at €50 one-way. The rules are simple but strict on size. Here's what you need to know, checked September 2026. Confirm on Transavia's pet page before you fly.
In the cabin: up to 8 kg, dog and bag together
- Weight: max 8 kg for dog + bag together.
- Bag: soft, flexible fabric only — no hard plastic. Max 40 × 30 × 24 cm, with ventilation holes and see-through windows. It goes under the seat in front of you.
- Age: at least 15 weeks old.
- How many: 1 pet per passenger, and only a few per flight.
In the hold: up to 75 kg, on your own flight
Bigger dog? It flies in the hold of your own plane — the heated luggage space under the floor — in a hard kennel. You hand it over at check-in and pick it up after landing.
- Weight: dog + kennel together max 75 kg.
- Kennel: fibreglass or hard plastic, max 102 × 69 × 76 cm, with a door that locks top and bottom. No wooden kennels, no metal bars. Bring cable ties to secure the door.
- Space: your dog must be able to stand without touching the top, turn around and lie down.
- Limit: max 2 pets in the hold per flight — book early.
Where Transavia won't take your dog
Some airports don't handle pets, so Transavia carries no pets at all — cabin or hold — on flights to and from:
- the United Kingdom and Scotland
- Ireland
- Iceland
- Morocco
- the United Arab Emirates (Dubai)
- Chambéry (French Alps)

Flat-nosed dogs
Transavia has extra rules for snub-nosed breeds (pugs, bulldogs, boxers, Shih Tzus and similar) because they can struggle to breathe under stress. Small ones fly in the cabin like any other dog; for the hold, check Transavia's snub-nosed policy before you book — most airlines refuse them there, and our advice is: don't.
What it costs
Depends on your flight number:
- HV flights (Transavia Netherlands): €50 per pet in the cabin, €77 per kennel in the hold — per one-way flight.
- TO flights (Transavia France): €60–180 in the cabin, from €100 in the hold — per one-way flight.
How to book your dog's spot
A pet is not part of any fare (Basic, Smart, Plus or Max), so you won't see it on the fare-comparison screen. It's an extra that you add later in the booking flow.
- While booking: pick your flight and fare first. The pet option appears in the extras step, next to special baggage.
- After booking: log in to My Transavia → open your booking → Special baggage & pets → choose cabin or hold → pay. Possible up to 2 hours before departure, as long as you haven't checked in yet.
- Don't see the option? Either your route is on the no-pets list above, or the few pet spots on that flight are already taken. Try another flight time.
- Bring the EU pet passport (or Animal Health Certificate if you live outside the EU), a rabies shot at least 21 days old, and a microchip.
- Cabin: arrive as normal, the bag goes under the seat. Hold: be at the check-in desk 2 hours early with your dog in the kennel.
Cancelling the pet later is only possible through Transavia's service centre, and the fee is not refunded.
