Flying Aegean With Your Dog: Cabin, Hold, Fees and How to Book

Aegean takes your dog to Greece and the islands, in the cabin or the hold. Watch the aircraft type: on the small turboprops that fly to the islands, the cabin bag has to be smaller. Here's the short version, checked September 2026. Rules change, so confirm on Aegean's pet page before you fly.

In the cabin: one dog, up to 8 kg with the bag

Weight: max 8 kg for dog and carrier together.
Bag: a non-rigid carrier of max 55 × 40 × 23 cm. On the smaller DH8-100 and ATR aircraft, used on many island routes, the maximum is 40 × 25 × 25 cm.
How many: one pet per passenger, a cat or a dog.
Your seat: a window seat, never the first row or an emergency exit row.

In the hold: from 8 to 25 kg

Is your dog heavier than 8 kg including the carrier? Then it travels in the hold. For dogs between 8 and 25 kg including the crate, the crate may be at most 71 × 52 × 55 cm. The Dog Flight Checker tells you which crate size your dog needs, and whether it stays inside that limit.

What it costs

Aegean does not publish a single fee list: the price depends on the route and is confirmed when you add the pet to your booking, or through the call centre. Ask before you book, especially for the hold.

How to book your dog's spot

  • Add the pet to your booking through Aegean's "Add pet" service, or call the contact centre. Places per flight are limited, so arrange it early.
  • Papers: an EU pet passport, a microchip and a rabies shot at least 21 days old. Greece is in the EU, so for a trip from the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany that is all you need. See our EU pet passport guide.
  • Island hopping? Check the aircraft type for each leg. A bag that is fine to Athens may be too big on the flight to the island.

Not sure if your dog fits the rules?

Our free Dog Flight Checker takes your dog's weight and tells you whether Aegean, and 26 other airlines, take it in the cabin or the hold, with a checklist for the vet dates.
